ABOUT US
Local Classical Music Archives (LCMA) is an initiative of the Centre for Indic Studies. This website is designed for music aficionados and those who appreciate a specific flare and preference for Trinidad-Indian classical music also known as 'Local Classical Singing' or Baithak Gana in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies. This genre of music is fondly practiced in the West Indies region specifically in Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad.
LCMA seeks to promote and preserve the cultural artform of this type of music which represents one of the long standing traditions within the Indian Diaspora that epitomizes the musical genius of our ancestors and the unending desire to keep our culture alive.
The main purpose of this website by LCMA is not merely to preserve the musical artform but to allow the future generations of the Indian Diaspora to learn about Local Classical Music. LCMA provides visitors with access to listen uninterrupted authentic music where they can appreciate the skill of the vocalists and musicians alike, and ultimately propagate Local Classical Music.
Equally important, we here at LCMA care deeply about the music we provide and the visitors who utilize our services. As such, we have taken the lead in the region to bring this musical archive on a digital platform to you, making it available to the world (for personal entertainment) without the hassle of using multiple social media outlets.
We welcome all to share the content of this website so we can create an archive that will benefit all Local classical music lovers globally and for this type of music to be eternally remembered.
Centre for Indic Studies
The intellectual history of India is an invaluable part of world history, a history that belongs to all people, and a history that currently is virtually unknown in the caribbean in spite of its sizable Indian Diaspora.
The Centre for Indic Studies is a virtual institute created to build academic interest in the area of indic studies in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider caribbean.
The Institute is founded on the principle that academic study of a culture solidifies its presence by creating avenues for understanding accessible to the wider population in which it exists.
